2007 entries

Have just checked out your website for the first time and enjoyed reading submissions by other BM riders. I'm a member of the Victorian BMW Motorcycle club, which has about 820 members. Not bad for a state that has a population of approx. 4 million.
I bought my K1100 m4 years ago. It's a '95 ex-police bike and had 39,000 mls on it when I acquired it. Currently just about to tick over 56,000 and has been an absolute joy. Attached pic was taken in a "Round-the-bay" ride last year. The ride was about 190 mls and involved a ferry trip across the heads. Keep up the good work.

Here is "Red Sonja", my much loved 1990 K75S.  She wasn't so pretty when I purchased her in March, 2007, but after a summer "makeover" she looks and runs like new now. Renovation projects included recovering the seat, repairing and repainting the engine spoiler, repainting the fork lowers,
installing a new windscreen, battery and tires, upgrading the lighting circuitry with headlight relay, running lights and tail light modulator, replacing rubber bits and doing a lot of cleaning and polishing. This winter I plan to replace cables and hoses and repaint the side and center stands. With almost 100,000 mls on her, the only major work done so far has been the replacement of the clutch and a few seals.  I ride about 1000 mls a month and expect to keep this wonderful machine for many years to come.

This is me with my 1988 K75S, which I purchased new in 1988 at Lone Star BMW in Austin, Texas. I've covered just 19,500 miles with it, mostly in increments of 50-100 miles, but it was ridden continuously when I wasn't at sea with the US Navy. Now that my son is growing older, I hope to ride it on some longer treks. It's mostly stock, with BMW hard bags, heated grips, and a few other goodies. It has never been parked outdoors overnight, and it runs and looks perfect.

This is my recently purchased 1987 K75 S. It runs like a clock, handles very well, and considering my last bike was an ST1100, this is truly Kudos to BMW. It is of course much more nimble, the buffeting is not nearly as bad as I was told it would be with the stock screen (I needed to install a 5+ Clearview on the Honda to stop the horrific buffeting!) and I can easily get the K onto the center stand. I will soon be learning how to wrench the “baby K” as we have a serious shortfall of BMW mechanics here. Hey, if anyone has a used shop manual for cheap let me know! Also, any hints or tips would be greatly appreciated. I have done tons of wrenching on HD’s British and Japanese bikes, but this will be my first Beemer, so be gentle ;-) The best news I’ve heard so far is that I don’t have to remove the triple trees to replace the fork seals!... NICE!
Gotta ride!

Hi, I’m Matt from the forum. 1989 K100LT,  bought from first owner.
just turning 37,000mls. It runs great. I also own a K75 which is being converted to cafe racer. Once I’m done I’ll ask you to put my picture to umbau's :)

Hello to all and thank for this great website. After many flat twins, I decided to get something different. Here is my 87 K100 RS Motorsport. 49,000mls on the odometer whitout a single trouble.  Surelly a fine bike. I'm heading now for a K75S. Regards from sunny Provence !

This is my 1991 K100RS. I am the 4th owner. I bought it with 27,000 miles on the odometer. Since then I have added 13,000 miles. It has BMW integral side cases and a BMW top case for the back.

Hello K Riders! That’s my pretty K75S. She was built in March, 1988 and has 33,500 mls on the clock. I own here since one year as the 5th owner. Although there were four previous owners the bike is technically and optically in a mint condition.

Hello to all. Here’s my 1987 K100RS Style. Since 43,500 mls a trusty companion for any purpose. With LT seat, Motad exhaust, sport footrest , standard handlebar, heat grips and finally the four-piston-brakes my perfect bike.

Here’s an  "Update" for my gallery entry.
In November, 2006, I sold my palmetto-green K1100RS for a Marrakesh Red K1200RS. The 1200 exited me with the stable suspension and the powerful engine. It was built in 2000 and has done only 9,000 mls, so it is just running in.

Limited by a student’s budget, I bought my K1100 RS with 44,000 mls and did not regret this decision. The engine is running well even after this quite long distance and I believe that this will last for many additional miles. The bike runs predictable and indulgent for “Beginners”. Previously, I gathered the experience with an old military bike to get the big bike’s license. Ride safe to all of you, Philipp.

Hi, Thought I send you a picture of my 1989 K100RS for the gallery.
I bought my K100RS used in 1996, for the purpose of a cross Canada trip. It is a Special Edition model. I am it's third owner, and it currently has 61,000 mls on the odometer. I do my own maintenance, and I think it is a fantastic motorcycle.
Love your site, and think that it provides a great service.

I just want to say you have made a very nice and usefull website for the K enthousiasts. Thank you for that.
I have included a picture of my 1990 K100, that i want to share with you, at the gallery. I have modified the model a bit. The headlights are aftermarket streetfighterlights. The handlebar is one from a 650 Dakar, the mirrors are taken from a Rockster.
The front fender is a combination of a K1100 fender ( upper one ) and a cut and sawn K100 fender ( lower one ). The front turnlights are housed at the sides of the fuel tank. The ignition switch is mounted on the left frame tube. The claxon is mounted above the ignition coils.
All excessive plastic is removed.  The backframe is cut off and a luggage rack from a R100 GS is welded on. The back fender is made by Acerbis.
The tires are Michelin trial/off road models. Suspention is replaced by Hagon, brakelines are stainless. The exhaust is made by Remus. And to finish the bike, it is painted matt black.

Hi K 100-Community
I enclose a picture of my beloved ‘85 K100RS, which has done about
53,000mls. The RS is my third K100 and apart from the Sebring exhaust and suggestive details like steel brake hoses and K100RS4V mirror adapters strictly genuine, as this is how it works best. After 125,000mls on Basic, RT and now RS it is clear in my mind that the 2-valved K series is one of the best motorcycles ever built. As long as they are available I would not buy any other.
I wish you a safe 2007 season, when I will reach the 60,000mls barrier on my third bike! Greetings, Ulf

May I introduce my totally modified BMW K1100LT Special Edition, built 03/94 and with more than 75,000mls to you?
The bike has been exclusively optimized and modified by a BMW garage, so that its surpassing the standards of a K1200LT factory bike. It is a rarity and a collector’s bike.

Feel free to contact me and find out ore at my website:

A friend for life!
I purchased my K 75 C, built 1986, in 1989 at the BMW dealer. It has been dropped; the mileage was 8,000.
By now, the odometer reads 146,000mls.
The ‘Baby K’ has been an unpretentious and reliable bike on my european journeys and as an every day bike. Smooth engine, low fuel consumption, good performance, comfortable seat, realible and easy to maintenance -it’s a pity that this fantastic concept is discontinued.
There has been no major repairs. Only the brake light switches are prone to fail. The wheel bearings had to be exchanged every 55,000mls. In winter 1999/2000, the bike has been overhauled. The shaft drive and the rear shock absorber were replaced. Now the bike is nearly like new and nearly stock again.
Nowadays, my ‘Heartbeat Bike’ is not used as a commuter. I’d like her to stay like it is for many years. A K1200RS completes her as an everyday bike. When the 1200 is once again out for a repair, I’ll take my good old bike and remember the old times when we both have been young.

This is my 1986 K100RS - The bike had 13000ks on it when I bought it just over 3 years ago. It now has nearly 50000ks up on the clock and has not given me a ounce of trouble. The bike receives regular oil changes etc and its a bike I hope to keep riding forever.

Nice web site. Here is my 1988 K100 RS.
Stock, but with  the Corbin seat, Parabellum windscreen and Ohlins shock. When I got it from a friend, in summer of 2005, it had been painted a non-factory color. It had been dropped, and had the subsequent damage to the fairing, and left side pannier. It was repainted  in summer of 2006, a factory color, anthracite. I am running avon tires. It is getting to be well broken in at 37,000 miles.
I love this bike. It is reliable, and comfortable for distance riding. Fast enough not to be boring, and sporty enough to handle the back roads well. It's great on trips. with two people on it, there is still plenty of power. I have always liked BMW motorcycles, but had never thought i'd own a K-bike. It's perfect! As 1988 model, it's the newest bike I own, so the technological amenities are satisfying as well. I am happy to add these pix to your site, to be displayed alongside K-model BMW's from all over the world. Thanks very much.
Happy trails to all, and safe travels.

Here comes my ‘87 K75C which is mine since 1990. It has 34,000mls on the clock and is an all-season-bike. Beside the black seat it is in stock condition. It’s always a pleasure to ride it.

This is my second K100RS.  My first was a 1988 K100RS SE but I didn't like the ABS brakes so I sold it. This 87' model is very plain with only the emergency flashers, nothing else. I love it. It was recently repainted and I am in the process of doing all the preventative maintenance it needs.  It currently has 62,000 miles on it but runs and handles better than the 88' model I had which only had 18,000 miles on it?  I've been fooling around with motorcycles for over 40 years and these bikes are probably the best bang for your buck even in today's market of new and technologically advanced machines. BMW really out did themselves with these early model K bikes which still rival many of the newest machines on the market.  I've ridden many old airhead BMW's and thought they were the best for longivity and performance according to their design.  However, these K bikes have earned a reputation for longivity and performance that is superior to the best of the old airheads.  I plan to keep this bike for as long as I can ride, making whatever repairs may be required to keep it on the road.

This may be your first gallery submission for 2007!
This is my 1986 K75C with a colour-matched RS fairing fitted by a previous owner. I bought it in London with 68,000mls on the odometer - but as I only ride occasionally, its yearly distance average should drop very quickly. It came to Britain in 1999, but I know nothing more about its history. The rumour is that it came here from Switzerland via Spain (there are motorway toll stickers on the fairing). It has obviously had a hard life, but for a 20-year old machine, it is in very good condition.
