Front fork seals

  • Hi everybody this year is the year of changing things. The other day I noticed oil coming out of my right fork. Fine time to change the fork seal. Now here is the question on my K100 RS 16V '91 which is the best and quickest way to change the oil seal.

    1. Can you change the seal from the top, just taking the top part out.
    2. Do you have to take the fork leg off from the bottom, taking the wheel off

Can somebody help me with this little dilemma ....

    Thanks in advance

  • Hi ,

think it´s not the question to find the quickest way but the best way

the fork usually needs more care after the decades than just changing the seal
leaking seals are mostly just the result - not the reason

always change the upper upper and lower bushes as well
than think about new progessive springs (Wilbers/White Power )

Do it only once - but complete

  • Hi,
    Wise words

Also I think, that it is reasonable to install rubber gaiters on fork legs. They will protect new seals from sand and dust.
When I had replaced fork seals they began leaking after two or three months. After that I've installed gaiters. No leaks for three years
