Hi Pezi. K-Guard heat shields are an after market item that fits behind the rear of the engine, between the battery covers and the gearbox housing. There is one shield on each side and they trap hot air flowing off the engine and direct it aft to the rear tire.
In your part of Europe you don't have the heat we have in the summer in many parts of the US, but when temps approach 40 degrees C, the hot air pouring out from under the battery covers will burn your legs. I have new rubber seals under the tank and around the air box of my old '84 k bike and everything is correctly positioned and zip tied the way the factory does, but even still there are occasions every year or two when we have a heat wave with temps exceeding 40 C where I am out on the bike for an extended period that leads to burns on the backs of my calves above my boots. The only way to prevent burns on these days is to layer up my legs like it was winter, which is obviously uncomfortable in such weather and not always possible if you have to dress nice in slacks for an appointment.
It was such a day Tuesday returning from Los Angeles to my high desert redoubt, two hours of blistering desert riding, the kind that dries your eyeballs out, in slacks and nice oxford boots below my jacket that I roasted my legs pretty badly. After all these years I will finally cave in and buy K-guard heat shields, if I can find them.

  • I'm Michael (six1) nor Pezi  Pezi is the ugly one from Austria :mrgreen::mrgreen:

yes, i know about the heat shielding! and i know about what's happening when you drive without leather boot's ... that's like a flamethrower against your skin :)

My apologies for confusing you with Pezi. I saw the white jacket and my mind immediately said Pezi without further thought.

The boots did their job but it was the trousers above the boots that didn't protect my legs.

  • yes Themason, what i thought, are long leather boots

and you're right: only trousers are not enough!
