oil/water pump 1

  • Hi Ned and a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours,

    Tried to email you but work must be offline.
    Battliung to get correct parts for oil/water pump from agents....they imported the wrong parts and can't find a listing for the correct bits! Even with my VIN number.(Only in Africa?)

    Do you have the BMW part numbers for the following:
    i) the 19 tooth oil pump gear/shaft. (they gave me a 31 tooth gear)
    ii) the complete mechanical seal. (I got a normal oil seal from them)

    They also supplied a steel spacer (??), and a pressed electroplated steel water impeller (??) Mine is a cast iron seat with a cast iron impeller/cover. Hope yours was the same.

    Cheers mate, Frank

  • Me again. Should have referred to your excellent pics and post first.

    I see that you also got that pressed steel impeller. Now i am totally confused because my water pump consists of a dished seat Like yours) but with a cast iron impeller/cover that bolts up to the seat.

    I seem to remember that our VIN numbers were pretty close and would therefore imagine that the water pumps are similar.

    Unless of course one of the previous owners replaced the complete pump. Unlikely, and we checked all pre-1986 and post-1986 fishes but could not find a cast iron impeller. Yet, in the Heynes exploded view, as well as on their fish, a cast impeller is clearly shown. Nowhere does it show your pressed steel impeller.

    How does your impeller work and what does your cover look like. If you have a home computer, please email a photo. Cheers.

  • This cheap looking part is the one and only, which is listed as actual impeller in the EPC.
    The old one:

    The new one, since about 1989 on:

    Other parts like old 19 tooth gear, old pump:

    Newer pump with more teeth on gear, don't worry it works...:

  • Hi Hoechst,
    Thanks for the info. My bike is a 1986 model aned therefore has the solid cast iron impeller and also the 19 tooth oil pump gear. Do you have the BMW part numbers for these as well as for the mechanical seal. I understand that my model does not require the spacer. Auf wiedersehn.

    Fohe Weihnachten und ein gutes Neues Jahr. (with a little help from my Austrian wife.)

  • Well Frank , here's my christmas present for you:

    Look at the parts and the part list under the picture. There is your Z=19 gear.
    <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=0503&mospid=51751&btnr=11_1974&hg=11&fg=35&lang=en" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do ... 35</a><!-- m -->

    Look here an you'll find the Z=32 gear and the matching further parts. May be this is the only one deliverable, and no old parts with Z=19..
    <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=0503&mospid=51751&btnr=11_1818&hg=11&fg=35&lang=en" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do ... 35</a><!-- m -->

    Also you could check the prices and the correctness of the order you did by your dealer. From here, cannot list the parts YOU need, because sometimes there is a mixture of elder and newer parts. If you like to renew the complete pump, please check also the surface of the shaft, where the seal ist placed. If it is used, aou could place the new seal a little bit beneath - so deeper or less deep in his bed..

  • Danke Hoechst. From the part numbers you supplied and referring to the part numbers on my invoice, I can clearly see that I was supplied parts for the 32 tooth setup ie post 1989.
    I will go there tomorrow and show them what the Forum can do, which they can't, even though they had my VIN number. Many thanks. Frank
