Big job - spline lubrication, centerstand job

  • Hello!

I am doing clutch and drive spline lube. During disassembly of the bike's rear and clutch release lever I have found a small leak from rubber sealing gaiter. Is it normal to find gear oil in rubber gaiter, or thrust bearing and its seal should be 100% closed. Next thing If I pull out the control rod and thrust bearing, can I suspect oil leak, or the normal level in gear box is below thrust bearing? Because it is K1100 the thrust bearing and seal is one part:

    Best regards,

  • Will the K1100 box fit the K100? I may have heard this. K100 the oil does reach the thrust bearing and you will lose a little when you remove the boot.

If I remember correctly, you can remove the control rod without further leakage.

Note the centre stand bushing has groves for o-rings :o . Take a look at pictures of inner Paralever bearing races. I don't plan to replace them. The problem for me is that, I can't remove needles with buckets form rear and front swing arms bearings, so I am not able to clean them and put fresh Molly 60 on it :/. Any advice?

@JoelB , AFAIK the gear box from K100/K1100 are exchangeable (maybe K75 too). Putting newer transmission allows for Paralever conversion.

    Best regards,

  • Hello!
There were o-rings, I've threw out what left of them.
Back to question regarding clutch rod seal and rubber gaiter:
    a) if seal should be 100% seal, than I have to replace it, and leave the gaiter,
    b) if there should be a bit of oil in the gaiter, then I'll leave the seal and replace the gaiter, because it leaks out.
hoechst give me a hint, you made a video about that job ;).
Motor works has "pushrod seal" in catalogue, but where it does go?

I've removed the clutch disengage arm - needle bearings are in terrible condition :/.

  • Gooday :D

The little "pig" seal keeps the oil away from the way along the rod forward through the gearboxshaft. So be aware how to mount it the right direction. The metal base looks forward to the front of your bike.

It is placed into the shaft ( heaten the shaft, and take the seal directly out of your fridge -18°C )

ok, now to this rubber # 6, here named a " cup ". In the space behind the cup there has to be oil, but not outside. We always change the cup during this reparations, because with your k1100 you have to remove the exhaust to come close to it later. Is it the part you call " gaiter " ?
